Indie Category Playtest - Don't Rest Your Head
« on: February 08, 2010, 09:12:46 AM »
***Please don't reply to this thread if you're in the Indie Category at this year's Student Nationals***

I'm now looking for players to take part in a playtest for my Student Nationals game. The game in question is 'Don't Rest Your Head', an insomniac-based Horror game. Players play the role of insomniacs who find themselves in a parralel world, the Mad City.

This game is open to players of all experience (though I'd prefer a good mix). Date hasn't been set yet; I'm hoping to get this run at Patriot as part of their Playtest Night (Monday) or RPG night (Thursday), but I can run at my/someone's house if I get enough players interested.

Game will probably be two sessions, PM me or reply with any queries.

Neither, it's a D6-based system.

Players roll up to three 'types' of d6: Disciple, Exhaustion and Madness, the GM rolls Pain 1-3 = success, side with most successes wins. The highest number on a dice shows which condition is 'Dominant' (eg. If you succeed, but Exhaustion is Dominant - you complete your task, but the effort taxes you, taking you closer to falling asleep; a Very Bad Thing for the PCs  :))

I believe that, if we use the Friday group as a playtest, it doesn't begin until the evening anyway.

TBH, it's a new, game-specific system, so learning the system goes with the territory (especially with a Nationals game).

On the upside, there's one check for everything!

Game was a lot of fun.  System becomes second nature very quickly.  You also managed to keep the feel of WTFis going on throughout.  Am looking forward to the next installment.

Right folks,

With the Nationals looming large, I'm looking to conduct at least one more playtest before the big date. I'm happy to either organise a gaming group or guest-GM for another group.

Any number of players are wanted (up to eight) and although experience of playing at the Nationals is preferable, I'll accept any level of gamer. I'll provide everything needed for the game (including dice, as it can get to be a 'bucket of dice' roll when the PCs go all out).

If anyone's interested in playing, or wants me to GM for them, let me know. I'm available any day bar Tuesdays and Sundays. reply or PM for details.

And I'm available any time after Tuesday.  Give me a date and time, sir, I'm quite interested.

To be honest, Andy, I'm not gonna have time to run this before the nationals now. However, I'd be happy to run it again after the Nationals if anyone would be interested.

Sorry, didn't see the last post date on the post above.  I thought you were cutting it a wee bit fine...
