Student Nationals 2020
« on: September 04, 2019, 06:18:41 PM »
Campaigns are now in full wing so time mention Nationals

For our new members the Nationals is a large gaming tournament/social/convention where a shit load of gamers from societies around the country decend on some unlucky location for a weekend of dice, models, cards and possibly the "odd" beer

The Nationals is hosted by a different society each year based on who won the previous year and this time will be held in Sheffield on the 24th - 26th April 2020

At Nationals everyone plays a particular game category for the weekend with the categories covering roleplaying/card gaming/wargaming/board games etc and runs on a very similar system to HUGS campaigns in that everyone who is interested needs to submit a 1st,2nd and 3rd choice of categories.

All of the categories as well as all other generation information can be found in the brochure which is found here: http://bit.ly/Nat2020Brochure

Attendance is 25 and the deadline for me submitting our entry is 31st December so will need everyone who wants to go 's choices/entry fee before the end of the year. Do keep in mind that there will also be hotel/transport costs with transport just being a train ticket as Sheffield is nearby. For hotels Alex is looking into this but it normally ends up something like 60 for the weekend if your sharing a room, usually double that if you want a room to yourself but thats just an estimate.

Further information will be posted in this thread or there is also a facebook event linked to below

https://www.facebook.com/events/377317089816888/

As normal if you do want to come game choices need to come to me and entry fees to Ben

FYI for everyone Nationals have just posted the below about requiring ID this year

"Hi everyone! Now that your game allocations have been sent out to your team captains, it's time for us to remind you about bringing your ID!
Our Students' Union has laid down the law that everyone at Nationals *must* provide ID, and we'd hate for anyone to be turned away, so please check that you have yours and that it matches what we've sent to your captains. These will be used for entry checks only, and we'll be as sensitive and discreet about this as we can. For everything else we'll use your Badge Names.

Acceptable forms of ID are passport, driving licence, a current student ID, or any ID with the PASS hologram. A new PASS ID costs about 15 and takes up to 21 days to receive, so if you don't have ID then now is a good time to sort one out. https://www.pass-scheme.org.uk/card-suppliers/
(And, yes, we're going to keep reminding you about this all the way up to the Nationals. We'd rather have 500 people sick of being told than one person not able to attend!)"

Nationals 2020 cancelled due to Covid19

This is the announcement post from the Nationals committee

"IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

TLDR: Nationals is now postponed until next year

Hi Everyone,
Hope you're all staying safe and well.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation, it has become apparent that hosting the Nationals in July/August 2019 as we had hoped is unfortunately not going to be possible - even if we've started to come off lockdown by that time, an event involving people from all over the country spending time in close proximity to each other wouldn't be a great idea.
We do have a contingency plan, however, which we discussed with team captains just over a month ago - the Nationals will now be postponed until 2021. We don't have a confirmed date as yet (our Students' Union has been furloughed so our usual contacts aren't available for us to confirm plans with) but it will be sometime during Easter vacation as normal.

We will be making announcements in due course about sorting out ticket transfers etc.

We'd like to thank you all for bearing with us during this difficult time, and we hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join us for Nationals 2021."
