Il Libro Illustrato
'Images of the Margomarissi'

The Stonespear Mountains
The eastern wilderness of the Margomarissi, rising up in great grey clusters of rock. Near the city of Solius, twisting road and stream lead westward and downwards to the Valle Caligo ('vale of mists') and the wide River of Drowned Swords. Rich in silver and gems, the valleys are dotted with ursa lairs and roaming vraag packs; bandits, rebels, and escaped serviles; rough mining camps and the clustered tents of wary prospectors.

Here blood is spilled more for simple thievery than politcs.

Solius-On-the-Mountain
The Pelosian city of Solius.. or 'Fehg Fearn Dru' as its known in Dummonii. Its Piamarium is built spiralling the mountain's peak, so it literally looks down upon the Dummonii border. The Profanariom however, is a damp, mossy slum at the mountains foot, some miles away by twisting path. Great chains pull the rich and wealthy up the mountainside on scenic elevators. The poor and the Perioche must walk.

"The Serpent's Tail"

Having the same name in both Pelosian and Dummonii, the Seprent's Tail slinks down the mountains towards the River of Drowned swords. The main road is Pelosian and cuts south of the river, but there are numerous paths cutting off it that lead north of the river.

The House Skuza Caravan

The wagons: Now somewhat knife-slashed and gore stained about the wheels. Somewhat reduced in fortune from earlier ventures, even two wagons of luxuries may net a small fortune at the Autumn Faire of Tuthom-Pothrie.

Homorn

With a massive bodies covered in thick hide and bristly fur, and a huge bifurcated horn protruding from a bone armoured head, these powerful creatures would be fearsome indeed if not for a usually docile temperament.

Stunning one with a flamberge is no mean feat  ;D

Flamberge

A tradditional weapon of the Rand (northern Raphaelia), where its pitted against the might hutzaxe. Beneath the grime and pattina of rust, our deceased Hutzlun berserker seems to have found hiimself a rather nice one.

Vraag

An unexpected visitor to Eduardo's caravan. Vicious pack predators, plague of travellers across the world. In the summer months, adolescent males are driven out of their packs by the larger, stronger males and forced to roam the wilderness until they form a pack of their own... The term "summer vraag" has come to mean any especioally bad situation.

"Corbie Man"
Shaman of the Two-Faced Corbie tribe, he has no name - for it was taken to land of the dead by the Great Corbie, Sui Marbh, the Deadsitter.
Only the dead know his name now. He is a guide to the travails of the Caves of the Dead.
The uncharitable might say he smokes too much shadow moss.

Scaren

This small but vicious hunter/scavenger has a bristle covered body, supported by a 30cm wingspan. They can be dangerous if encountered in large numbers as they sometimes flock together to bring down much larger creatures (inc humans!) Scaren legs sport a downwards curving spurs that, when the creature’s legs are drawn up in flight, hang down like curving knife blades. Normally they eat Jurgis, Lacerta and other Avis, but a ‘flight’ of Scaren will sometimes perform a series of fast sweeps past larger prey, slicing out ribbons of the victim’s flesh.

Scaren also have an unusual defence, they have special internal air sacks, which are inflated to put its body under great internal pressure. If the creature’s skin is then pierced, it will explode in a meter wide shower of pungent gore and a distinctive ‘pop’. This sound and smell is a sign for other predators to come running and along with the lack of Scaren meat remaining after a pop proves an effective deterrent for most creatures.

Daggerbill

The Daggerbill wades through the swamp, lake, and river shores of Uma, hunting for both fish and tiny lacerta. Vicious  creatures, they are well known to attack even creatures of much larger size  than themselves. They are sometimes kept in captivity and their sword-fencing like fighting style put to use in organised ‘duels’ for entertainment, or as guard beasts.

The Dangling Man

Languishing in a 'Corbie Cage' by the crossroads, he wears a ragged red cassock of a Mazarite monk. Clearly parched and exhausted, he gestures feebly, apparently able to managed only slurred mutters to plead for aid. Around his neck hangs a slate plague, upon which is written:

IN NOMINE DOMINI PELO
In Nomine fusae, quia mendax est et fraudulentus Confiteor Fur ac Perfidus insanabiles.
Me poenitentem Mazeraina templi.

Alchemical Ambushers

Unusually agile and organised, and with alchemical resources beyond the common bandit.

Raeginbald
Father and Uncle to Witches

Ageing Hutzlunr, uncle to Fjorleif. Once just another mercenary in the Margomarissi, Raeginbald has long tied his fortunes to the Town Divided. One-time comrade in arms to fellow adventurers Sanguine Amber and Logan Tenblades, he is one of the rare sell-swords that lived long enough to retire. Now the most respected smith in Tuthom-Pothrie, he lives in a Hutzlun-style compound in the Profanarium, with a number of retainers and apprentices including his daughter Heidi and the 'shield-vytch' Lagaertha.

Despite his height and clear brawn,  Raeginbald's body is a mass of scars and old wounds. Despite his aches and pains, he trains hard each day and mutters often that its a poor thing for a man of the White Lands to reach old age without a story to his name, and he's contemplating the contest for the people's champion this year.

The Brothers Murcatto
Brutal Pelosian Gangsters

Entrepeneurs of the most violent and brutal kind, the brothers Murcatto are a relatively new addition to the underworld of Tuthom-Pothrie. No one knows exactly where they came from, but its rumouredt they were once harmosti - members of Pelosia's 'occupation legions' who specialise in repression, interrogation, counterinsurgency and other shadowy work (hated by just about everyone in the Margomarissi). They're hulking brutes, and identical twins.

They rose to infamy shortly after arriving in town, by 'disapearing' the least liked moneylender in town and slowly encouraging his rivals to join forces (or face "a sudden trip downriver"). Based out of the Tether Peice gaming palestra in the Piamarium, and the Big Rico gaming house in the Profanarium, they're de facto heads of the Pelosian underworld. Three times they've been up before the archon's court (twice for extortion and once for murder) but each time they have escaped on the same technicality - the court was unable to prove exactly which one of them did the crime.

Piccolo
Smart-Mouthed Margo Entrepeneur

Hard-drinking and foul-mouthed young street brat, growing up fast on the mean and muddy streets of the Profanarium. He wears a wide-brimmed feathered hat and an old legion officer's jacket that's far too big for him. Lighter hair and complextion tells of mixed heritage, and he speaks fluent Pelo Margo. His cynical, grasping demeanour somehow manages to be mostly charming.

Technically a professional runner and literal errand boy, Piccolo plans to by his way out of the gutter as soon as possible.
