Gourimpest Prime

Gourimpest: A decadent dying empire, destined to one day join the Federation.

Only one parsec from the Federation’s current border (the deplorable Califeron), Gourimpest is named after the continent-sized megacity of the same name (confusingly the city, planet, system, and Empire all share the same title). Once an empire encompassing nearby Trantor, Kaldor, and other minor fringe worlds, Gourimpest has long been withering -- the enfeebled remains of an empire brought low by superstition, autocracy, and decadence. For the last hundred years, it has had no holdings beyond the Gourimpest System itself. Inevitably its citizens will one day petition the Federation to throw off the yoke of the corrupt nobility for a better, cleaner, meritocratic way. For moment however, a combination of showmanship and brutality keeps the population powerless, if not docile.

The Emperor leads a feudal hierarchy of land owners and imperial tax collectors (Gourimpest still uses primitive physical coinage and allows private transactions). Emperor Gour XXIIX owns all land on all the system’s planets, which he parcels out to various nobles and eunuch administrators There are two main factions at court: The Megabarons (land holders) and Lord Reeves (landless but charged with a controlling certain trade monopolies).

Both Gourimpest and Trantor claim to be located at the centre of the galaxy. Neither claim is correct. The origin of their dispute is obscure but probably related to each planet once lying in the empire of the other.

Central planet of the system and capitol of the empire, Gourimpest-Prime's capital is Gourimpest City - a megacity housing 400 million imperial citizens. Sprawling rather than tall, the city is dominated by the Palladium – a combined religious icon, imperial palace, and gladiatorial arena. Federation citizens are limited to the standard SFH (Secure Federation Habitat) dome.

Buell’s current resources and lifestyle suggests that he may well be guilty of the misappropriation of funds the rebels accused him of.

ADDENDUM [BUREAU OF DIPLOMATIC AFFAIRS]: The Federation has received a request for aid in overthrowing the Emperor’s troops attempting to drive them out. Any request for assistance to Federation personnel for G-Sigma must be immediately referred to Federation Bureau of Diplomatic Affairs.

From 'Gourimpedia'
(Officially Sanctioned All-Purpose Database of the Empire of Gourimpest)

Preperations are currently underway for a prestigious gathering of nobles at the exclusive Hellboria Hotel complex in Noble Zone 236. Exiled Megabaron of Sigma 3, Minos Bruel, is thought to be pulling out all the stops in an effort to impress the Reave Lords and minor functionaries of the Imperial Court, to canvas for aid of the Emperor's Knights in reclaiming his homeland from the insurgents that have driven him from his palatial Megavilla.

As fashionistas of the capital will surely know, the great glass spire of the Hellboria Hotel contains its own section of exotic jungle, painstakingly transplanted from the jungles of Tarsia in honour of our glorious Imperial forces' triumph during the invasion. Now sadly devastated due to the necessary use of Imperial torgue bombs, the Hellboria is one of the only places in the universe where Tarisan flora and fauna can be observed alive and in their natural habitat.

Among the expected guests are Lord Gaius Zeigler of the Computing Reave, and the Emperor's personal Judicial Champion, the renowned barbarian hero and Tarsian worg-strangler, the mighty Brun of Goth (speculation that Megabaron Bruel may have personally paid for the honour of seeing a rare Tarsian worg strangled by Brun as entertainment are rampant but as yet unfounded). Its also rumoured that flash-in-the-pan GourTube celebrity Kal Reece (AKA "Bullet Game Man") may attend.

In other entertainment news, it was finally confirmed today that musical entertainment will be provided by Freedom City boy band and 'sonic terrorsts' Intergalactic. Following the meteoric interplanetary success of their first album, Delta-Grade Love Bomb, the trio are currently touring the League of Free Worlds to promote their latest auditory assault album, entitled Thermonuclear.

More news as we get it.

Breaking News....

Speaking of celebrity of the week invitees, retiring arena favourite and frontman for the Reeve of Imperial Mechanics, robo-gladiator Chrome-A-Vorus Rex will also be in attendance, fresh from its testimonial victory over the Sir Killalot and Crabosaurus last Restday. This will be Rex’s last public engagement prior to departure next week on a tour to the outer colonies, to entertain the troops in a series a display bouts against local machines – another clear indication to many cyberpundits that Megabaron Bruel is courting military favours.

No word yet on whether GourTube sensation Kal “Bullet Man” Reece will attend.
