Vapnartak Wargames Show (York) Sun 3rd Feb 2013
« on: January 26, 2013, 05:31:37 PM »
Anyone going to Vapnartak in York next Sunday? I might well go on the train 'cos the racecourse venue is less than (I think) 2 km from the rail station. That way I can relax in the bar with a pint.

I'm meeting at least one 'Oldhammerer' there, possibly more.

I should be going. Unsure whether 'in kit' though at moment, as I would need a lift.

The earliest train I can catch to York changes at Leeds at 10.28, joining the 10.12 Hudds train to York, arriving at York at 11.08. From there I'm gonna walk to the venue, maybe 30 min, possibly less.

There is an earlier Hudds - York train leaving Hudds 9.12, arriving York 10.05, but I won't be on that due to the timetabled necessity to wait overnight in Leeds!

I plan to return on the 16.45 from York to Hudds. This gets to Hudds at 17.27, and gets me back to Fitzwilliam via Leeds at 17.46.

Vapnartak is 10.00 to 17.00. If it is the best event I have ever attended and I cannot bring myself to leave slightly early, I might catch the 17.45 train home instead.

I'll let you know ASAP if we are going Padre.

From going to other events at the Racecourse I am sure there is usually a shuttle bus that goes there too

Hah, book was not required after all. I might so many people from so many avenues of life. Doc was there from HUGS, and the guys from the OldHammer forum, but there was an old comrade from my time in Col. Edward Montagues, plus some guys from the Wakefield club, plus my Tower Hamlets CO and the new Lord General of the SK Army of Parliament, who I thought I knew well but it turns out they run figure manufacturing businesses. I even met two gamers on the train and so walked with them from the station to the do, chatting all the way as is usually my wont.

This all boiled up into spending more time in the bar than looking for stuff, which then meant I didn't spend too much. Good fun all around.

Still would have been better if more of you guys had been there :(.

Ah well..neither the books I ordered nor any Warlord Games metal Greeks were there. I ended up buying Judge Dredd miniatures and rather a lot of half prize resin Sci-fi buildings with a view to converting some of them to 28mm. Amazingly I only had a single beer at the bar !
