Europe 1483 'play-by-mail' Campaign
« on: September 04, 2012, 01:42:02 PM »
Hi Guys & Gals.

I thought this would be the best place to post this thread, as we don't have a Board Games section...

It concerns my plans to host/GM a play-by-mail style game based on the existing boardgame "Europe 1483" produced by guildofblades.com

The game is designed for 10 major player nations (Ottoman Empire, Russia, German Empire, Poland-Lithuania, Spain, France, Sweden, Egypt, Empire of the
White Sheep Turks and England) plus 6 minor PC or NPC nations (Denmark, Venice, Golden Horde, Hungary, Portugal, and the Teutonic Order). To win the game, the Players have to expand their kingdoms/empires via Diplomacy and Warfare. All moves will be plotted on a map of Europe c.1483, which will be updated along with all nation and territory data each Turn by the GM. Battles will be conducted with dice rolls by the GM off-line (no tabletop battles neccesary), and the results presented to the Players.

It is potentially a huge game (preparation, data crunching and presentation) and I am still in the planning stage (seeking permission from GoB to use their map and basic game system - already had some promising commuinication with them), but I expect I won't be ready for a start until the New Year.

So the purpose of this first post is to test the water and see who, if any, are interested in giving it a go.

Cheers.
Ian YT

I'd definitely be up for it depending on my other commitments and spare time... I'll be able to give you a better answer when your closer to being ready to go! :)

Thanks for the interest on and off forum.

Good news; I have written permission from the game designer to use thier map and data for our persoanl pleasure.!

Been reading through the rules and picking out the 'basics' for a rules document. It looks pretty cool and I expect will involve a lot of diplomacy where you guys are concerned  ;)

I am getting excited about it, but there is a oot to be done... the map being my major concern as it is HUGE as you might imagine. For a sneak preview of the original map (mine will be a little different), look at this...

Cheers for now.

I'd be interested too. Am currently reading mostly books about just that period.

(Edit) Although now, nearly three weeks later, I am becoming wholly distracted by another pseudo 1480s project which could suck up all my available time (Warhammer Tilean story campaign).

The game has (d)evolved into ....

Hyboria 1288.

Same mechanics, with a few mods. Now set in Conan's hyborian Kingdomw.
Five major, ten secondary and 15 tertiary (non-player) nations.

Got the map to finish, then the rules to condense. Should be ready to go by the end of October.

Hope most of you are still interested.

Cheers.

Not too surprised by you moving across to REH's influence Ian.

Yep,
I'm still up for it.

Likewise

IIRC one of the very first PBM games I played was a Hyborian setting - many, many years ago in the Sports Centre!

Aye, there's plenty of space.

So far I have ...
Ant,
Doc,
50,
Damo,
Padre (??),
Norman (from my Monday night wargames club)
and now,
Geordy_Lad.

So that's 6/7 out of a possible 15.
Probably get some more from the wargames club.
