General Roleplaying / Re: Making Orbis RPG a wild west game
« on: March 31, 2020, 10:25:04 AM »
There's been a couple of others that I've read about. But one was wearing a mail vest that did nothing to stop him dying of bullet wounds, and the other was a gut who always a long black frock coat with two steel plates in it at chest level. Saved himonce, but the fact that he always had to wear it was a problem in and of itself
I agree, not much armour was used and it was of little use against modern weapons.
The only other instance of body armour  I could think of was [bar shields used by American Indians] the one used by Shirt' or 'Iron Jacket', a Commanche believed to have an invulnerable shirt passed down along his ancestors. Believed to be invulnerable by his followers, his protection didn't stop a heavy and powerful bullet. It proved to be a mail shirt worn under his attire, probably an old relic from the Spanish!

Few odd thoughts...
You could add shuriken for 'Kung Fu' ?
Some rules allow close range shotgun blasts to knock a figure a distance (bit like a shield bash in some rules].
Smoke from firearm discharge being mentioned [until cordite ammo is used].
Bolt action v lever action, not usually addressed in rules but in wargames rules lever actions usually have no faults. Lever actions are more prone to breakage and its easier to reload prone with a bolt action.

Ned Kelly and his gang are the only individuals who spring to mind in armour..and that's in Australia.

改变 GǎibiÓn / Some Reflections from Mr Star
« on: November 24, 2019, 03:04:40 PM »
As the eclectic group proceeded along the long corridor, a jostling throng approached and proceeded them from an array of mirrors. 'Star' instinctively sited himself inside the small phalanx of his companions, wary lest anyone notice that his reflection wasn't anywhere amongst their myriad doubles. Willing their progress to speed along, his eyes widened... 'He' was here!.. a brief look of surprise flashed into the face of his master who had suddenly joined Star's companions.
It had been stupid to come here, inevitable that He would be present! Star's eyes nervously flicked across the sea of faces as his senses reeled, fighting his reluctance to gaze on the gloating face of his tormentor as he trying to work out just which image showed the physical location of 'Him'. There he was! The sneering, assured visage with the confident air, or was it? Nearby an angry face, near twin to Star's, stared with murderous gaze...or the other which laughing silent mirth..Star was bewildered, unused to seeing his own features or even those of Him, now dozens...No! Hundreds!..an infinity of faces confronted him, one stared pityingly, another stifled a yawn of indifference, another, his true self perhaps, screamed in mute terror. Although seemingly trapped in the same instant no two where alike and, somehow Star knew, none where the same person.
He faltered in his progress along the enchanted corridor, and was fleetingly aware that mirrored image of the young girl at his side was looking intrigued at him. Star willed himself forwards through the sea of phantasms, brooded on what they portended.

'Mr Star':  "Maybe we need to find a diviner? Something has brought us together, why here? Why now?"
He reaches into his pocket and takes a sniff of some dark powder from a small box.

The middle aged, well dressed westerner pauses for a moment looking at each of the occupants, <He speaks in Cantonese with a foreign inflection>
"Mr Star. You'll have to excuse me, I'm trying to make sense of all this weird stuff tonight"

Hell Trek / EPILOGUE
« on: June 17, 2019, 08:23:19 PM »
Epilogue.
The Rhand women decide to wait with Atlanta whilst she recovers from her injuries before continuing to a mining settlement where they will, hopefully, meet men whose proposals they accept. Atlanta turns down a proposal from Keef Proctor and Danni turns down a proposal from Vernon Stillwell.
Marty Crane and Irma Markmann become engaged.
The former crew of Freedom 16 are keen to start prospecting.
The Robinovs intend to move further inland into the mountains.
Sybil Moon makes disturbing prophecies about the crew of Canye 4.
'Billie' Band Junior makes a good recovery from radiation sickness, though he is now completely bald.

Nearly half a continent lies ahead of the adventurers who crewed Canye 4 if they decide to continue to Death Valley to scatter the ashes of Canye's uncle at the battle site of the Battle of armageddon, prior to reaching Mega-City Two and the promised inheritence.

Hell Trek / Re: MARKMANN CONVEY MANIFEST
« on: June 17, 2019, 08:00:01 PM »
Day 14 to 16. The convoy fights a series of battles through the mutant hills.
Taco Korbett is burned alive in the wreckage of Freedom 12.
the Casa-de-Winters try to escape and crash their vehicle and are massacred, though the Jobsians, who had to abandon their wrecked vehicle, Sisters Naomi, Ruth, Huldah, Jamimah and Sharon use their firepower to ensure they take dozens if not hundreds of mutants with them before they are overwhelmed.
Davis 9, The Damascus Waggon, Robin 20 and Rhand 21 are also lost. The Lucky roller is partly buried in an avalanche and self destructs, but not before Derrek escapes in a small hov-vehicle, though he has witnessed the destruction of his remaining robo-otter.
Barbara Markmann is killed by a sniper. Gabriella Davis is presumed killed.
Franco Markmann, Clay Davis, Slim Davis, Kiera Smith, Jake Rhand and Atlanta are all badly wounded.
Leila Normans is wounded.
The two robo-dogs are lost when they are released against the mutants.

The New Territories are reached in the early afternoon of day 16. Markmann 1, Crane 2, Canye 4 and Proctor 14 are the only surviving Rad-Waggons.
Left Mega City One: 26 waggons 108 Trekkers
Reached the New Territories: 4 waggons  Trekkers and 46 trekkers (two of whom were born en-route).

[Figures do not include IBM, Hernando, three entertainer droids, five robo-otters and two robo-dogs; but include the de Winter simulants as humans. Of these only IBM and the Robo-otters Salford and Bolton survive]

Jeb, the uplift encountered at Illinois survives the journey.

Day 14
The discovery of a chunk of gold in a nearby river by one of the Rozinov family sparks a debate, though all the waggons eventually decide to stick together than go off prospecting.
Another debate concerns the route, eventually everyone decides to follow Damnations advice and ignore the direct route of that cuts several hundred kilometres off the route to the New territories as some mysterious factor seems to operate in the area, a longer route is planned through some foothills and mountains held by savage mutants.

DAY 13
The winding trails through the volcanic peaks of the Nebraska Rift take their toll on the convoy.
The front half of the Matthews waggon that continued the trek is lost down a sheer drop with 'Gazza' and 'Dot', later AppleMac 19 plunges of a cliff, though everyone but Ophrey manage to scrabble to safety, The Happy Waggon also tumbles off a cliff, taking poor, deranged Isembard and his two droids to their doom.
Left Mega City One: 26 waggons 109 Trekkers
Currently              : 13 waggons   58 Trekkers
Coming out of the 50k range 'Big Bart' has passed out and needsmedical attention. Base camp reached, IBM starts to malfunction and accidently treads on one of Derrek's otters crushing it completely.
The helltrekk has covered 1,257km.

Three mutant settlements are passed through in a relatively peaceful manner. The convoy makes 189K, and has made 1,189K of the 2,000K journey. Camp is made in clear sight of the Nebrasks Fault, a range of volcanic mountains.
Matt 15 is discovered to have a cargo of hundreds of turkey/raptor hybrids, most of which escape in the dusk into the radland. Matthew Matthew and his remaining lifestock are discovered to be partially devoured.

DAYTIME DAY 11
The convoy moves through the dusty plains of Iowa into an approaching rad-storm that's blowing at over 100MPH. The head vehicles make good progress but the middle of the convoy becomes lost, fortunately Derrek has the tech skills to find a safe route back to the rest of the convoy, which had decided to halt near the 1,000K Pole around noon. Only 52km is made but the half way point has been reached!
No one dies!
