: Midnight Plaza
: 50 February 16, 2013, 11:09:04 AM
Midnight Plaza, one of the oldest ‘day and night’ markets in the city. A huge cobbled square as broad as two merchant ships and as long as four, set a few streets back from the wharf front, not quite-central to the fireside half of the Haak district.

Constrained on its four sides by narrow canards and buildings large and small. Some store houses, others bright windowed shops, and one impressively proportioned building declaring in carved stone above its great black doors “Market Hall and offices”. Two broad streets run at right angles to each other over bridges from the north and east and numerous smaller alleys join the square from all directions.

Usually, during the day, the Plaza has scores of small brightly canopied ‘barrow stalls’ set in two blocks and selling all manner of goods both practical and curiosity to the wandering Haak-folk. At night about half the stalls are moved, those that remain sell luxuries, strange spirits and unusual herbal narcotics from the far flung corners of Uma, the gaps between stalls now interspersed with exotic and decadent entertainments, of a kind to tempt even the most jaded browser.

Today is a little different...

The bright yellow sun shines down from a cloudless blue sky overhead; its uncluttered expanse is in stark contrast to the bustle below.

All of the stalls have been moved to the harbour side edge of the square, lined tightly-packed against each other to clear as much of the plaza as possible, and it’s a good thing too. The plaza is heaving with people; there must be hundreds upon hundreds of folk here, milling and bustling, pressed tightly up against each other in the sweaty heat of the day. The clamour raised as people jostle for position is almost deafening, and yet more can be seen pressing in from every alley and canard, climbing on top of the parked stalls and hanging out of building windows in an effort to secure a view.

The larger buildings on the opposite side from the Hall have had their upper floor balconies turned into viewing platforms for those wealthy or influential enough to secure a place. The doors from those buildings out onto the Plaza are defended by a colourful collection of private bodyguards in varied livery and armament. Even the rooftops have been pressed to service in some cases, and a few with some cender-power or magic sufficient for the task and that don’t mind perching in the gutters get the most elevated view of all for their efforts.

The view in question is towards the large Market Hall building, in front of which has been built a raised platform of heavy timbers with a sloped ramp going from its back to the doors of the Hall. A dozen or so seats have been placed on it but otherwise for the moment it stands bare.

Stood motionlessly flanking the Hall door, three to either side, are a half dozen heavily robed figures and though deep cowls cover their faces, the burning heart badge upon each marks them as Immortals, the legendary Invoker-guardians of the Nostrum. Further to their steadfast defence, surrounding the base of the platform and holding the crowd back with some judicious shoving are about two score Pyraxian soldiers dressed in mail and carrying the familiar spear and tear-shield of the heavy infantry.

The sharp eyed might also be able to spot more of the City-states army and a few sash wearing Tremallu positioned in small groups near the main exits from the Plaza trying to keep careful control if the influx, whilst the more mundane and ‘in the middle’ crowd-control duties are being enacted passably by at least three different watch cartels if the rough but swift justice is any indication.

<Arriving fashionably late comes a man of obvious Pelosian decent. Struggling to find a place where he can at least see over most of the crowd's heads, he looks like he's seen better days. A fresh wound on the side of his face, and the loose fitting clothes worn underneath his strapped leather armour look they have recently been slept in. At his waist is a very fine looking short sword that his hand rarely strays far from, but all in all he looks decidedly cheerful. He is accompanied by a large Whitelandish gentleman who he turns to address.>

Lucius

I don't suppose your new found credentials could get us a better spot could they?
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: Ant February 16, 2013, 12:35:23 PM
Stalland

<The big white lander he talks to is dressed in light piecemeal armour, a reinforced arming coat being the main part. His clothes are tough and functional, with little embellishment but are looking like they need cleaning, while he himself is clean and washed. A his arming belt are a number of axes of various sizes and slung over his back is a large, finely made war axe. Trotting along at his side is a healthy and well fed zolthound.>

Well possibly, but I want to see if I can find someone helpful first. Lets take a stroll round to see if we can find some one like Cif or maybe Zamaragdus, I need to speak to them. And let's just see which factions are here
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 16, 2013, 05:17:51 PM
On a first floor balcony across the sea of jostling citizens sits Lady Afzaneh, shaded from the morning sun by a delicate parasol, gently fanned by a creature pale as alabaster. Her usual daemonic guardians stand with arms folded at the corners of the balcony, surveying the nearby crowd; occasionally one or the other reaches over to gently but firmly pluck off and drop anyone who tries to clamber up to it.

Zamaragdus is paused at the corner of the great stone building, beneath the market hall's low-walled portico. Easily distinguished from the bustle of other concilli by his golden skin, he's eschewed the customary blue silks, instead wearing the sash and formal red robe of an arbiter, pinned with a large golden broach in the shape of the Lord Dreamer’s sigil.

He’s currently speaking to an elderly man with long grey-white moustaches, who's dressed in the russet and saffron stripes of the Wayward Sons watch cartel and leaning on an iron-shod cane -- which he occasionally waves at the crowd as if to indicate some point of discussion.

Stalland and Lucius have only pressed a few yards through the crowd when they find their path intercepted by a soldier.

Soldier

<thinks for a second longer then nods> aye maybe.. I can't leave my post, so mind you go directly to ser Zamaragdus then..

The soldier then holds up an arm, looking up away from you towards the nearby rooftops.
He waves, then points at his own his eyes, then at you two..

Up on the rooftop, in the direction he waves you can just make out, silhouetted against the bright blue sky, a figure kneeling at the edge of the building. The figure waves back, and with a nod the soldier ushers you on your way.

..actual Army, silver/white on blue livery.

For the record their are no Greenjackets that you can see here at all.. nor are their any Goldenclaw watch cartel for that matter

As far as I know, the Daktaar and the Koryph and given it seems the Koryph have seen sense and backed away from martial law I'm a bit more relaxed, but seeing them here is worrying

<heads over towards Zamaragdus' position>

Pushing your way to the edge of the crowd is hot work; the morning sun and pressing bodies are rapidly turning the square into an oven. You find yourself pushing through a hubbub of impatient conversation as well as bodies, although there's more than a few choice words half-spit in your direction before they see how you're armed and armoured.

Voices in the Crowd

… I think she’s fainted…

...fires, I’m roasting in here. It’s hot as the bloody Nostrum, any wine left?

….I’m telling you, Vatha always throws good coin at the end. We need a better position…

...Too hot, too many people, too many guards...

… That man said they’re getting rid of the Scourge once and for all, going to unhood and bind her right here, for that murder. It'll be carnage. We have got to get out of here!

…hey, that's the old temple of Hedosia, I miss that glove cult, great times…

...I hope we see some move on the bloody Dums, long past time...

...Exile the Whitelanders! Whitelanders out! Whitelanders out!

... Watch it, you!

... My purse, my skakting purse is gone....

...Mummy, I can't see anything! Pick me up!

On this side of the plaza, the crowd terminates at a line of soldiers surrounding Market Hall itself. Behind them on the raised walkway, Zamaragdus and Hebba Jobey are still in conversation, although both glance in your vague direction as you emerge red faced and sweating from the press.

Nearest Soldier

< raising shield >

Whoa, right there! Where do you think you're going, all strapped up for raiding?
: Re: Midnight Plaza

: Re: Midnight Plaza

Soldier

Look, if I had a tin parvus for every-

Hebba Jobey reaches over and gently bangs his cane-tip on the soldier’s helmet.

Hebba Jobey

What are you afraid of, eh? Think they’re the latest Pelosian invasion?
That’s Haak citizenry of repute that is.

Zamaragdus

Sorry of what repute, exactly?

Hebba Jobey

Of Haak repute. Best kind

Hebba gives you a toothy grin as Zamaragdus gestures you both over with an exaggerated sigh. The guards let you pass behind their line - not that there’s not much room here, pressed between the portico wall and the backs of the soldiers. At least you’re out of the sun though. Looks like its going to be a scorcher.
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: Ant February 18, 2013, 06:50:05 PM
Stalland

<grins at Hebba's words as they move onto the walkway> Well met again Hebba, not seen you in a while, and Zamaragdus I trust you are both well? This is a hot day to have everyone pressed into the square, and their mood seems...changeable
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 18, 2013, 07:44:34 PM
Hebba Jobey

We're baking 'em for their gossip this morning < grins > Death bides his time and the ladies are fine, so I'm very well indeed all told, thank you... although its been too long since I strolled down your stretch of the canards - I guess that's a compliment, really.

Zamaragdus

Yeah, the taverners will certainly thank us later. As for me... I have been moderately wicked already this morning, but only time will tell if I am sated or hungry for more.

< looks over you both >

This armoury seems a little overstated for a respectable Greywater concilli. Not thinking of starting a riot I hope?
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: Ant February 18, 2013, 07:57:33 PM
Stalland

<Looks around at all the troops and watchmen> Not sure I was expecting this many krigere and the last time I was in a plaza for a gathering and a promenade it was in the Janat district and I ended up exchanging blows with an Ursa, so we came prepared...fortunately you have it covered and now we will merely be too hot... <As if to emphasise this he takes out a water bottle to take a drink, giving some to Hengist as well> Next time you are in the mood for some carousing come and find us Hebba, and you Zamaragdus, if you want to slum it, and I wonder what it might be that makes you say you'd been wicked... <he stands up from where Hengist has been drinking from his hand>
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 18, 2013, 08:53:07 PM
Zamaragdus

Well I am by nature an evil man, and chance blesses me with multiple opportunities to undulge.

< smiles down at you >

We must all make the best of our circumstances, and learn to adapt to new positions, otherwise you never learn to abuse them. Welcome to the concilli.

< looks towards Lucius >

You. You are still whoremongering though, right?

: Re: Midnight Plaza

Zamaragdus

I was just going to say you may you may find your new employment far more dirty and sordid than your old. And thank goodness at least one of you hasn't moved into local government.

Hebba Jobey

< winks at Lucius >

We're much better off in an honest profession.

Zamaragdus

And so... we come to the purpose of your visit, which I was somehow sure was not just a ruse to enjoy some cool and shade.
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: Ant February 18, 2013, 09:57:39 PM
Stalland

The shade is most fortunate, that is for certain and I will enjoy it and your company for as long as possible... <he gives a smile> but first, while you are in good humour I ask for a favour. The recent events at the Tower of Familiars saw a man summarily sentenced to death without full facts presented, I talk of course of Hett G'Vaar. I have been advised that if any could think of some legal reason to secure his release, or at least a stay of execution then you would be that person...I dont know what you think of Hett, and if he is your enemy I am sorry to hear that, because in recent days I have found him to be a good man, of good heart and good purpose and a man whose defence of the city has been as resolute as any other, so if you can lend aid I think this would be a good thing, and as I say, a thing I shall consider a favour

<He takes a deep breath>
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 18, 2013, 10:25:34 PM
Hebba looks at his feet, suddenly sombre. Zamaragdus raises an eyebrow, but does not look overly surprised t your words. He gazes off over the crowd for a moment or two.

Hebba Jobey

< muttering, looking at Zamaragdus >

Aye, good man.

Zamaragdus

You don't know how much you flatter my abilities with those words... < trails off > He is my friend, in as much as my heartless black soul is capable of such things. I helped him spend his money when he first arrived here - that preposterous gold daemon's foot... And we helped him get his licence. So no, he is not my enemy. Yes we shall discuss such things -  at length. With liquid balm.

Barge and Ferryman, a turning or so after this?

Stalland

<smiles> Aye friends it does me good to hear you speak of him such, and it might be I have something to set him free, a witness to his actions and cause at the tower who is perhaps unimpeachable in their honesty yet currently not available for interview to anyone...but we can speak of this over a cold ale...my other snippet could probably wait till then too I suspect...shall we talk of other things?
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 18, 2013, 10:46:59 PM
Zamaragdus looks like he's about to say something, but Hebba interrupts him.

In my opinion, most Pelosians are quite bright, decent fellows. The problem is Pelo and his disciples. And harmosti of course. Personally I want to be around when they finally invent a machine that dispenses wine and women... and foot massages, of course.

Hebba Jobey

Well, *I* just wish that we could get it through the thick skulls of the Scalpers that the Pelosians in Nostapyrax aren't the problem... < meaningful look at Zamaragdus > I mean, the Church would want to burn most of them alive, for fehg's sake.

This is Nostapyrax, gods are ten a-parvus and you'll always be offending someone. Fortunately there's always this year's crazy cult or temple around the next corner. If nothing else, I'm sure the Dummonii will have a god of Blasphemous Bordello Names, or close thereabouts, that you could appeal to.

Nice try young man, but its Koryphians and Arbiters only in there, plus frankly the only reason I even know about your new job is that we all spy on you people inveterately for our own amusement. Lets not challenge the good nature of our guards again today, eh?

Purely boredom, I assure you. And occasionally wagers on how events might turn out. Speaking of which, I should probably at least look like I'm doing some work. I do have some more important - although not necesarilly more interesting - people to spy upon, and Koryphians to escort through the fragrant gardens of my turpulence etcetera, so I shall bid you farewell.

Hebba, I shall see you anon.

< points at Stalland > I shall see you in the pub

< points at Lucius> I shall see you if you ever fancy a change of employer

< bows toward Red > I would see you any time you'd like, Miss Ivy. Clothed or unclothed at your convenience.

With a smug smile, a further bow and a swish of rich red robes, Zamaragdus will slide a few steps backwards, before turning on his heel and heading down the portico (away from the crowd) and towards a side door in the Market Hall.

The side door to the hall opens again and a large figure emerges. Big as a Whitelander, he stands shoulders above the Pyraxian soldiers but the resemblance to the pale skinned northmen ends there. His flesh is a reddy-bronze and deeply lined, with white horn and bone protrusions on cheek and temple, and as he steps into the brighter light there is an almost metallic sheen to his skin. He wears a heavy fur collared cloak even in this baking heat and at his side a huge hammer, of the sort a smith might use but of larger proportions. He glances around before speaking to the soldiers nearest, the begins to make his way over towards the group with Hebba.

The main doors to the hall open and a dozen figures hurry quickly through.. all wear the thin drape-sleeved robes of Concilli and they quickly spread out two heading down some stairs off the ramp at the back of the stage to speak with the line of soldiers at either side.

One each to join with the motionless immortals stood at either side flanking the doorway. The rest move to stand several paces back from the row of seats that has been positioned on the stage.

A ripple of excitement runs through the crowd and the hubbub becomes even more deafening than before.

The buzz increases now as several figures start to move out through the doors and onto the stage..

First through a tall, graceful woman with pale red-tinged skin, Its hard to say for certain but she is perhaps 'mature' in age, although undeniably and remarkably beautiful. She wears a high collared figure fitting dress of cloth-of-gold which shines brightly in the sun reflecting light at all angles and making it hard to look on her for any length of time. Behind follows a dark skinned man with a waxed black goatee beard wearing bright silver scale armour under a long grey cloak and with a curved war-sword at his hip.

Hebba Jobey

<Speaking quite loudly but only just heard over the crowd> Tykaerith.. Or 'Lady fortune' as many prefer. Koryphian for Central Fireside. And Balash, her bodyguard and sometimes Proxy.

: Re: Midnight Plaza
: 50 February 22, 2013, 09:40:05 PM
Next walks out a woman of significantly shorter stature, and with a stride more precise than graceful. But with the bright sunlight illuminating her golden hair and giving it a soft glow as it tumbles over her shoulders framing her palest golden complexion one would find it hard to argue less beautiful than the first. She wears a rather plain dark blue dress fitted to the slim curves of her figure and buttoned up its front from floor-touching hem to plain turned neck. No one follows her as she too walks to stand in front of one of the chairs.

Emerging from the doors, a pair of muscular young men: Barrel-chested, identical of face, with skin the light blue of a bright summer sky. Clad only in short kilts of tiny silver scales, they carry between them, like yoked homorn, a delicate sedan chair draped in opaque silk. As they stride forward, the sunlight silhouettes a slight human - perhaps femine? - figure behind the curtains. Moving with dancers' grace despite their burden, they move into position on the stage.

Behind them comes a heavy set man in impeccable military uniform, his dress-sword's pummel a single enormous pearl. His weathered face sports heavy brows, widow's peak, greying sideburns, and a platted, inky-black goatee tipped with a small blue ribbon

From the side of the ramp (rather than the Hall doors) the next figure strides up. Standing over seven feet he dwarfs those who have gone before and has to turn his broad fur cloaked frame to pass between the chairs and move to the far end of the row.

Hebba Jobey

Scathis Scalarmis.. Arbiter for both the Central and Inner Lightside wards. <shrugs> I don't have much dealing with 'im but they say he's a fair man.. <chuckles> or should I say Sammael.

Cheers break out across the crowd as an immense, rotund figure emerges into the sunlight - bald, jowls like a fattened brawn, waddling under his titanic bulk, a grinning figure in loose silken pantaloons and a puffed and slashed doublet. One thumb tucked into a green silk sash woven with sparkling emeralds, he practically swaggers out on the stage to the acclaim it seems, of almost everyone.

Fat Man

< bellowing >

Let's get these good people some drinks!

As he speaks, men in livery appear seemingly from nowhere at the edges of the crowd, throwing dozens of wineskins into the press of people. Stepping briefly past his appointed place, the fat man laughs and hurls two great handfuls of gold coins into the crowd, and the cheering reaches even greater volume.

Almost lost amidst the cheering is the tall, slim figure in elegant robes that follows him out. Like an animate golden statue, he moves with stately poise to his appointed place, pausing only to discreetly pull his Koryphian's chair out a little, ready for the waving fat man to sink into.

<shakes his head> Now the funny thing is there you see before you a man who can honestly say is self made. Ask around they love telling his story!

They say he arrived... Fires only know how long ago, as a young boy, penniless orphan, and ex-slave and has dragged himself inch by inch out of the sewer filled canards to become the richest man in the world. Not by some strange magic, or otherworldly powers.. but by hard toil and razor sharp insight into the desires of man and how to satisfy them...
<Grins> Now clearly he don't toil much himself any more.. but, well If I'm honest I reckon he's alright is old Zartosh! <nods towards the golden skinned man that followed him> As for his son Ghrysogenus.. Well he's smart that's for sure and trying hard to make something of himself that aint just handed down from his pa.. So that ain't no bad thing.

: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 22, 2013, 11:21:39 PM
You see the red glow from the doorway before the man himself: A huge figure, wide of shoulder and waist, large as a Whitelandish hero of ancient tales, surrounded by a nimbus of sanguine light almost invisible once he's out in the bright sunshine. Clad in red and black silk robes, arms folded within voluminous sleeves, he glides out into the light – clearly floating just above the ground. A gold-plated daemon’s skull surmounts his brow, and a large bronze sigil, like a stylised horned face, hangs from his neck, not quite obscured by the great white beard that reaches almost to his waist. His features are ancient, but not frail.

Head slightly bowed, eyes apparently closed, he floats to his appointed place and gently settles into a chair.

Beside him strides the red-robed form of Zamaragdus, smiling and nodding to the others on the stage but looking rather small and insignificant by comparison.

<In respectful tone> Sagneth of the Dreaming Eye.. Koryphian for outer Fireside. <shakes his head and continues> And if you don't know who he is then you shouldn't be anyone's Concilli!

Some say he was once student to the Scourge.. and others that it was he who drew her from some nether-world.. but whatever the truth it'd be fair to say that their story is somewhat intertwined.

For his own self I have heard him called the dreamer and the crimson lord.. and I've heard Daemons that are as gods to normal men call him kuqe'zoti.. which means 'King of many lives' in their tongue, but whether they refer to his longevity or leadership I cant say.

Amidst the crowd, a figure brandishing a wineskin (and somewhat covered in wine, but not drunk) finally makes its way through to the pair of Dromishmen at the gathering's edge. He's brought to a sudden halt by the young, brawnier of the two who puts a hand out to his chest.

Hakiem

Ooof!

< splutters >

My-my friend, found you at last < steps back, rubs chest > And, err... behold, I am victorious in obtaining refreshment from Ser Zartosh... < glances up at the stage, on tip toe to see over the crowd > Ah, the Dreaming Lord. The Scourge cannot be far behind then. < offers the wineskin > They are bound together, those two, as close as the Eternal Flames: Like Pya-Matt and Pya-Xull, never one without the other.
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: 50 February 22, 2013, 11:57:24 PM
The pointing of fingers and awed mutters, bring eyes to wander back across the line-up as the ripple of awareness rolls across the crowd.

There, stood at the chair between Scalarmis and Vatha, as though it had always been, is a tattered grey figure.

…the vague shape of human, as though some old robe had been left stood upon a mannequin to years of neglect. Its ragged cowl hangs limp, sleeves flaccid at the sides, and hood low, and somehow it has a palpable feel of age and dust. Positioned up on the stage, one might think if close, to see up under the hood itself, but the darkness there is as impenetrable as the blackest ink...

..and even now, in the bright light of midday it somehow seems as though it’s only half real, as though the slightest breath of air would dissipate it like vapours.. but yet it..

...remains.

Hebba Jobey

<bare whisper, but one echoed all over by a suddenly quietened crowd> Ulema...

A few strangely still moments pass then..

The crowd parts with gasps as two soldiers push their way through, flanking a hunched form with withered limbs and flesh cracked like a crazed pot, oozing puss and blood from every line. A few long wisps of hair cling to a bald and blistered pate, and the wheezing and rasping sound of breathing suggest it’s a struggle just to walk. As the soldiers lining the portico move to allow the figure through he glances briefly over in your direction with watery blue eyes before making his painful looking way towards the stage proper. Someone in the crowd whispers “Is that Scipio?”.

On the stage, most of those turn to watch his slow progress with carefully controlled expressions and only the slightest shuffling. The two exceptions are Tessa Greywater, who looks absolutely horrified, and Zamaragdus, whose face goes dark. He makes a two steps forwards.. then suddenly stops, glances at Sagneth, and with jaw clenched steps back and turns away from all, to look out over the crowd..

Scipio
<reaches the top of the ramp finally and moves towards Ulema's tattered form> Mistress, I attend thee.

Ulema, her hood still facing out to the plaza ,makes not even the slightest move, throughout remaining as still as a statue.

Scipio
<voice cracking with emotion> Mistress, I swear I have not failed you!... Please! <slides a step further, reaching out with one twisted limb.. for a moment you think he is about to touch her, then he lets his hand fall back to his side>

..Please...<slowly starts to crumple as though the strength needed to stand is too great>

Zamaragdus' hands ball into fists, but he otherwise makes no move.. then Tessa suddenly shakes her head "inhuman!" and rushes over to catch Scipio and help him towards one of the seats...

The Scourge makes no man's life easy directly, that's for sure, but can you imagine this city without her?

As for Nik, I have had my fair share of run in with the man, and his disdain for Pelosians is even greater than my own, but the shortsightedness of the man is frustrating beyond measure. And if the rumours of his actions - or lack thereof - at the time of the trembling are true, than if he passes from this world, the city will be better off...

< weighs his words carefully >

The Haak Koryph is always a thing to be seen - although of course, every district claims that its leaders are the most outlandish and powerful in the city. However, we have the most powerful magi, and the richest man, and a virtual queen of daemons if rumour be true. Always energy and power with them.

Yet my planorium is distressingly vague. Change and power, my friend, is all that is hinted at.

I could prepare a more personal reading, if you would like? Very reasonable rate.

: Re: Midnight Plaza
: 50 February 23, 2013, 04:15:36 PM
On the stage Tessa finally manages to help scipoio to a seat, where he slumps, head barely lifted. With some last quiet word to him she rests a hand on his shoulder then turns and moves quickly to regain her position.

As soon as she does Tykaerith nods, then steps forward to the edge of the stage..

Tykaerith

<her voice clear, melodious and by some enchantment or strange acoustic ringing out, clear enough to be heard in every corner of the plaza>
Thank you my fellow Koryphians for attending this extraordinary session of the Haak-district Koryph. And than you my good citizens for sparing us the time from your busy day to attend and bear witness to the sessions findings.
<smiles as a smattering of applause rings out>

Please may I remind you that as witness you are not permitted to enter into any debate unless a Koryphian so asks. <holds up a hand and smiles again> ..So I'll thank you in advance for your tolerance of our more verbose members! <ripple of laughter from the crowd>

Oh and lastly can I mention we have arranged for some water sacks to be moved through the crowd, please feel free to take a drink.. I'd hate to have to explain to your co-workers, spouses or employers why we gave half of the Haak sunstroke! <another ripple of laughter is elicited as she then turns and walks back to her place.>

So... as acting Chair I declare the district Koryph in session.. The first point of order.. The Tremallu progress report on the writ of detention against the creature Known as the Haak Horror...
<Turns> Arbiter Ghrysogenus, I believe you have now been put in charge of this action?

<maintains his easy going smile, eyes drifting over the crowd more than towards the stage, but as Ghrysogenus's name is mentioned, he pays a bit more attention, and his hand drifts again to his sword hilt.>
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 23, 2013, 04:33:09 PM
The golden man rises, moving to the edge of the stage to overlook the crowd. Arms wide, as if embracing the crowd, he smiles.

Ghrysogenus

Thank you, lady.

Sers and Seras… Good people or all races, man and those who have ascended or descended.... As Tremallu Hall’s arbiter in charge of the matter known as  the Horror, it is my honour to this day report the danger is ended! No more shall the beast plague the good citizens of the Haak!

< cheers >

The polycrus, Grytharnak has been captured, and will haunt these streets no more. < Pauses until the shouts and cheers reduce > It is, as we all know, a daemon that has stalked among us - and so in this matter the Charters are clear. True, it is a monstrous thing, but the beast is shackled and the true villains are those who summoned and bound it their cause.

The Koryph Major
< gestures toward Witan district > meets to investigate what was done by wicked will, and what was done by cruel binding, but the Tremallu tell you here and now, the men behind its actions will be sought out, bound by law, and punished before the people and before the flame.

Now is the time for those men, not you good people, to hide, to live in fear. Bringers of chaos and murder, hear our words: You will be found!

Ghrysogenus

It is lawfully bound, and imprisoned, and far from where it can do harm, I'm told.

It is to its worshippers, to those responsible that we must look for justice - aye, and just compensation! The cult that worshipped it...the Dummonii - these 'Hollain' priates - who murdered in our district and fled, preventing proper justice falling from the Tremallu upon this cult. Who knows how many more died or were maimed because of them?

The investigation is not closed yet and if willing and deliberate action is revealed then I promise we will bring the Polycrus to the fires to answer for its crimes <by now the shouting near the front has died down a little, nearer the back where the shouting has turned a little to shoving you can see dozens of Watchmen, and Tremallu pushing their way in to drag out individual troublemakers>

Please settle down and hear the rest of the session many of your concerns will be dealt with in due course..

: Re: Midnight Plaza

The crisp uniformed arbiter steps forwards to speak

Cernau

A simple statement for the record.. To which the Haak Koryph, duly appointed and elected to represent the will of its citizens has unanimously agreed.

<takes out a piece of paper and reads it> We the People of the Haak do hereby condemn without reserveation, the opinions and actions of those that have carried out recent attacks on the Iddimu of the Haak district and the Citizens which dwell therein.

Further more we find that such sentiments are abhorrent and totally at odds with the free charter of our great city which we have all suffered so much to defend.

Thus we can only conclude that these actions and opinions are at root the deliberate effort of agitator and enemies of the state, and we thus apply to Tremallu hall to appoint a Principle and task them with bringing to justice on breach of charter all those who are found to have instigated or abetted these wholly un-Pyraxian acts.

He folds up the paper and turns making the slightest shake of head to Tykaerith as he returns to stand next to the Matrine Solux's parasol.

OOC:Meanwhile...

The crowd around our Dromishmen starts to settle down, partly because of the Tremallu and guardsmen pulling out troublemakers, and possibly partly because a couple of very obvious daemons swiftly vacate the area. The crowd around Hakim and Hakiem pulls back quite a bit - as Hassan continues to viciously beat the man, whose fallen to the ground beneath the rain of fists and savage kicks. Another bystander tries to intervene but is pushed roughly back.

A few moments later, an unusually tall Pelosian in gleaming chain shirt, with a Tremallu sash about his arm, forces his way through the crowd towards the fight. He's flanked by a pair of Wayward Sons armed with shields and cudgels.

Pelosian Tremallu

The Pelosian raises an eyebrow.

Hakiem

Ah, yes. Well, err... that is so. I mean, aaah we were attacked, and perhaps in his vigour to secure our safety this man was overzealous, but we were attacked, as any of these people could attest. We are of course sorry for any inconvenience to the ser's person - although we are firm in our assertion that he instigated the assault.

Hassan

That is true. He attacked me.

Pelosian Tremallu

You think that recompense is owed though, surely? For the 'overzealousness' as you put it.

Hassan

Yes. Indeed. This man got blood on my clothes and should be made to pay for their cleaning.

As the Tremallu speaks one of the Wayward Sons picks up the man (breathing a little easier now, but still gulping air) half-upright and out of the crowd. There is some unhappy mumbling from the crowd but a few people do stand up for you side of things too. The Tremallu turns from Hakiem to you.

It looks for a moment like Ghrysogenus is about speak, but Vatha raises a hand.

Hebba Jobey

Thought so.

Vatha takes a deep breath, and then pushes himself up from his chair. He dabs his sweating face with a handkerchief, then stands with his hands clasps in front, lips pursed for a moment. His humble pose and grim expression more than anything seems to draw attention of the crowd back to the stage.

Vatha Zartosh

Brothers and sisters of the Haak. Men as well as monsters have done murder in our streets these past days, and I am to blame.

Two years after the Trembling, I thought that we had found a good man, and could trust Whitelanders to patrol these streets again. I was wrong, and sons of Nostapyrax have paid for it. I gave the Golden Claw watch cartel its license and they did riot and murder on our streets, and partook in the violation of the sacred trust of iddimu that we all uphold.

The Ward of Inner Fireside hereby withdraws the license of the Golden Claws to act watch for its streets, and take back all standing, succour, and service from those members not bound by the law. Those awaiting just punishment, we condemn with our strongest words.

I offer pemberian to the families of our soldier-citizens that suffered at their hands, and offer my sincere apologies to them and to you.

Vatha meets Tykaerith's gaze but slowly shakes his head, before returning to his seat.  The keen of eye might notice Ghrysogenus, leaning back in his chair, head turned towards Zamaragdus. He mouths a few words but its far too quick and low to tell passes between them. But Zamaragdus does not look happy.

Tykaerith

<steps forward> I Shall Speak on the next related point if I may <gestures around the Plaza> We have indeed seen much trouble in the Haak these last few weeks, But it is the considered opinion of your Koryph that we can rise above our troubles on our own.. and put our own house in order. <looks out over the crows and speaking with measured and clear tone> So we have graciously refused the offer of Koryph major, The Pyraxian army will not be posted to police action in the Haak. The cities soldiers will still be available for extraordinary duties such as this but we still hold that we have the heart and will to settle our own affairs.

<pauses and then glances down to the side of the stage before looking back and continuing> A new watch cartel will be formed to replace the Goldenclaws and will be formed and led by the estimable Captain Hebby Jobey who will be stepping aside form his roll as commander of the Wayward sons to take up this new post at the request of the Koryph.

<looks to the side again> We charge the captain with having men on duty as soon as possible and in the meantime watchmen from the Janat and Pejman districts will be loaned to each of the Haak cartels that require them, bolstered by a small number of Immortals assigned to each ward until such time as watch cartel numbers can be recovered.

There's a buzz of conversation through the crowd at this news and a few shouted questions

Tykaerith

<holds up a hand> We trust Hebba to do a good job and each Koryphian will be conducting a thorough review of their wards cartels to ensure we have the right men doing the job. The Immortals will be present for a short time to show we are serious about restoring order ..and how serious we are take those who breach charter as our earlier statements.

there is more buzz and some shouts, but Tykaerith shakes her head indicating she won't be answering any more questions.

<after waiting a few moments for the shouts to die down continues> Arbiter Scalaramis will now report on the Inner-lightside ward.

Tykaerith moves back as the Giant Sammael walks forwards and nods to her before speaking

Scalarmis

<his deep voice booming> Lazlo Bellamaigne is standing down effective immediately, from his temporary position as acting Koryphian for inner lightside. In his words. 'So he can give his full attention to the forthcoming elections for the post without being seen to have an unfair advantage as incumbent'.

Elections for this ward will therefore be held outside of normal rota.. Voting will take place this year on the last Pyrusday of this mune. In the meantime I shall continue to serve as acting mediary for the ward.

Pelosian Tremallu

Very well, for the moment we will call the matter settled but only because a brother of the sash is here to speak for you. < gestures the watchmen off towards other trouble > But I don't want to see you and yours involved in this kind of thing again, summoner - conprehendo?

Tykaerith

The representative of the Ward of Outer Fireside now wishes to speak.

For a moment this draws some cheers and the attention of the crowd, but Sagneth does not move... in fact he has remained perfectly still with eyes closed the entire meeting thus far. Instead its Zamaragdus who stands and moves to the front, passing Tykaerith with a nod and a smile.

Zamaragdus

Citizens.... A lot of rough news this morning. Let's see if we can lighten the mood, eh? Who wants some good news?

< scattered cheering and cries of ascent, also a couple of "get on with it!" >

Lord Sagneth proposes that for too long, the ashes district of his ward has been allowed to lay fallow; a haven for the lawless, while honest men toil in half-repaired tennements, and beyond our city walls newcomers camp unable to enjoy the full rights of the Charters. He therefore proposes that the ashes be included in the ongoing good works of this city in rebuilding the Haak, to make room for those currently dwelling in the shanties beyond, and any other honest fellow or family who would join our ward.

Let all who would be part of this endeavour make themselves known to me at Tremallu Hall.

Now the Lord of the Dreaming Eye knows that the people of the Haak have already given generously to restoring the glory of our ravaged district, and so while I now call for new pemberian for this work, My Lord himself this day sets forth a hundred thousand red swords for the renewal fund. New blood, Sers and seras. Hard work but just reward, and a glorious new quarter for the Haak!

< louder cheers >

And if any ashes rogues have dragged themselves from their dens, to be here, I tell you this: Pack your bags or find more honest work. Good citizens of Nostapyrax are coming to drive you out... < grins > and the Well of Tears has plenty of cells ready for new guests!

Understood. I shall be positively lax, Ser. And shall bear in mind the relative weakness of the locals.

The Pelosian takes a moment or two to stare intently at you both, before gesturing up towards the nearest rooftop then at his eyes and the pair of you. On the stage Zamaragdus finally moves back as Tykaerith again speaks.

Tykaerith

So Moving on to the next point.. <pauses and turns round> .. The incident at the Last Koryph meeting.. <Pauses for longer, then in gentle tone> ..Arbiter Scipio..?

For a couple of seconds Scipio doesn't move, then he raises his head and moves as though to try to stand. Tessa Greywater quickly walks over to put a hand on his shoulder and lean him back into the seat before turning to Tykaerith. Ulema remains motionless.

Tessa Greywater

<To Tykaerith> May I speak on this point. <Tykaerith pauses before gesturing to Ulema and Scipio, Tessa nods and turning to the tattered form> ..If it is acceptable to my fellow Koryphian... <no movement> Ulema.. Please. <no movement, then Scipio holds up a hand and makes the barest nod, before slumping again>

: Re: Midnight Plaza

Tessa moves to the front of the stage looking very small compared to the others that have been there in the preceding minutes..

Tessa Greywater

<her voice clear and composed> As I'm sure many know a man was assulted in the chambers of the Exchequer building, In fact in the very session of this district Koryph. The man was Belamkhan Grigor Vespera and he later died due to the severity of the injuries he received in that assault..

<pauses until the hubub of the crowd subsides again> Yesterday I attended a full session of the Koryph Major, where a motion to impeach Koryphian Ulema of the shrouded face was brought. <patiently waits as the shouts and clamour this statement raises slowly subside>

That motion was defeated by a comfortable majority and Ulema continues to represent the Haak outer-lightside ward.
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: 50 February 24, 2013, 10:05:29 PM
Tessa Greywater

<continues> Obviously the matter of murder cannot be left unresolved and a full investigation is in progress, under the careful guidance of the Principle Tremallu in charge.. <pauses and looks over her shoulder> ...Arbiter Zamaragdus.

There is perhaps the briefest change of expression from Zamaragdus, but its gone before it can really be registered. Tessa walks to the edge of the stage and looks down.

Tessa Greywater

<Looks down> If it please the Koryph... Sera Lelandra Vespera, daughter and heir of Grigor Vespera would like to make a short statement on behalf of the family.

Tykaerith

<without walking forward> Granted, the Koryph recognise Lelandra Vespera and invite her to speak.

Tessa smiles then and walks to meet a figure moving up the stairs from the portico at the side of the stage.

A conversation in another part of the square ~

Nik: < Maybe a bit too loud> Your telling ME that women can mess up your 'uchawi' ? You have no idea my friend ! < lowers voice> I'm detested and facing a death sentence from my service to one woman. I love a woman who I don't deserve ! The Goddess herself breaks my bow and then sends messages to confuse and distract me. Another beguiles Umbruc into trying to send me for a long swim.I throw away my office trying to defend the woman of a thief who deserts her at a hint of danger. Aye..yon mad woman about to speak has tried to slay me as well ! 'Birth you, Love you, Kill you ! 'as some of the lack-tooth gaffers used to say back home.
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: 50 February 25, 2013, 12:05:39 PM
(On behalf of Meg)

A young woman steps onto the stage beside Tessa, giving her a nervous smile. She is wearing good quality, hard wearing clothing, tight black trousers tucked into boots laced to mid calf and a loose but figure fitted ivy green shirt, but compared to the splendour of some of the other costumes worn she looks clearly understated.

As she starts towards the front and passes between the other Koryphians her petite frame and lack of height is, as it was with Tessa, quite apparent, but if these differences bother her she makes no show of it.

She wears the mantle of nobility with an easy manner, making her way to the front of the stage at a measured pace as though she has belonged there since birth. Her auburn hair, held back in a ponytail fans gently out behind her as she moves, sparkling as it catches the morning sunlight. As she reaches the front of the stage she does not speak instantly, taking a moment to soak in the sunlight as she looks out over crowd, her green eyes glitter and a modest smile plays on her lips.

Throughout the crowd is abuzz, there are some shouts, but any meaning is lost to the general noise.

Lellandra Vespera

<She raises her hands, asking for silence.. When she speaks her voice is clear and calm, and spreads easily over the crowd so even those at the back can hear> I would like to start by thanking the Korph for the opportunity to speak regarding matters so close to my heart <turns and nods respectfully to them, (several nod in return)>

<turning back to the crowd> Many of you present today already know me as I know you, not only as a citizen of the Haak, but as a friend, sister, ally, scoundrel.. <as she speaks passion creeps into her voice> It is here, in the Haak, that I grew as one of you and learnt what I now hold dear. I learnt love, comradery, grief, loss and the value of a person’s character, regardless of status or wealth.

It is with this in mind that today I speak not only as a representative for the Vespera family but, as I would hope you would judge me to be, an equal.
Vatha raises an eyebrow.

From the crowd some cheers.. A shout of "yer dont look much like a Haak-skrite ter me luv!" eliciting some laughter, then someone else shouting "shadup I know 'er!" ..and another "Aye, me as well!" but the heckling soon stops as Lellandra continues to speak..

<in calm, serious tone> Upon reviewing the evidence presented myself and my family are happy to support the Koryph major's decision to reject the motion to impeach Ulema of the Shrouded face. And I have every confidence that Arbiter Zamaragdus <a small smile, quickly hidden> ..will conduct a thorough investigation to find any find any wrongdoings, and have faith that if there should be any guilty party, that justice will be bought against them. Zamaragdus makes the slightest bow with a fleeting smile.

Furthermore, I would like to add that myself and my family are clear that for the moment, no other party in attendance at the Exchequer meeting bears the burden of suspicion.

There are some more cheers and calls from the crowd then, but they quickly subside

<there is a long pause, and when she speaks again the smile has gone from her face and her voice falls flat, devoid of emotion> My... My Father would speak for his men, for those who have worked in the service of the Vespera family. He would commend their actions, assure you they have always discharged their duty with honour and efficiency in the best interests of the city.. and confirm that their actions have already withstood the necessary scrutiny, and have exonerated themselves of any negligence or miss-action

<through gritted teeth> My Father would be proud to say these things, to see his agents stand tall and free to continue his ambitions.

<takes a deep breath and continues in a measured tone> In many ways I am very much like my Father. I am fierce and I am proud in my love of my home. I have iron in my soul and a will to see the world as I think it has the potential to be. And as him I will fight to my last shred of strength and breath in my body to protect what I believe in

<Her voice goes heard for a second and a fire lights in her eyes> But I am not my Father. Vatha frowns, and Zamaragdus smiles.. Tessa's face goes momentarily hard, and for a second she looks like she's about to step forwards, but then her expression smooths and she just bites her lip and watches

<Lellandra's voice grows in volume as she loses herself in what she is saying, bearing herself to the crowd> I look out at you all today and I can see how the horror of recent events weighs heavy on each and every one of us.

There is a murmur of agreement throughout

Personally I have lost loved ones, friends and family <her voice waivers slightly and her eyes sparkle with tears, in a quieter tone> Even now one of those closest to me lies stricken, and if I could tear out my heart to offer it to the fires.. or to any god who would have it to see her well, then it would be done without a moment’s hesitation.

And.... and I am not ashamed to say that from the very core of my being, I am afraid....

The crowd falls quieter, listening intently now.

<her voice gains its strength again> It is with this fear that they would seek to control each and every one of us! They bring us war, they bring us terror, they destroy our homes and butcher our families while they cower in there shadows, striking at our turned backs.

And when even the strongest know grief and horrors unimaginable and fear is the only thing that we all know then they would seize it, they would use the fear they created to manipulate us, to turn us against one another, so from their shadow they can hide and watch us fight amongst and destroy ourselves, while they laugh on

I do not believe we are so easily led. I believe that to be Pyraxian it does not matter whether Man or Cender, nor the colour of your skin or your origin... to be Pyraxian is to have fire in your blood, to have a love of our fair Nostapyrax, envy to all of Uma, as part of our souls and the knowledge of true freedom, not just to live by, but freedom we stand unified to protect!

There are many nodding in the crowd now and some few cheers of agreement.. but a few scattered voices do shout against, especially at the first line but the crowd is quickly back to silence as she continues.

Together we can stand strong against the onslaught of loss, grief, horror, devastation, fear that the shadow would rain down on us! *

Together from out of the shadow we will emerge, to blaze brighter than ever before, to make our city and everything it stands for proud!

The crowd erupts into cheers and applause, shouts of support and agreement massively outstripping those of dissident opinion.

* Place marker for some individual pm to follow.

<nods to Zamaragdus and walks forwards> Thank you. <turns to the crowd> I have been a Koryphian for central Lightside for a few years now.. some scattered cheers ...but it is only now that I realise how lax I have been.. I thought it was enough to watch over my ward and try to ensure fairness to all the people that live there.. a few more cheers.. and someone shouts "we love you Tessa!" <Tessa gives a slightly embarrassed smile then continues> ..But I have grown to realise that this simply isn't enough. some murmurs

<gestures around> There has been much talk of routing out wrongdoers, restoring order, rebuilding the broken tenements... even all living as equals under writ and charter.

But these things wont happen overnight.. and we'll never all live as equals
some confused murmurs and even some booing ..but we can all live in a land of equal opportunity, where any of you can rise to the highest station, and by your own effort make your life good.

<Gestures towards Vatha with a smile> We have living proof that it was once so, but I'm not so sure its as true any more.. I read a letter this morning, written by someone who I thought I fundamentally disagreed with on every level.. but do you know, the funny thing was I virtually agreed with every point he made! The crowd are quiet now.

I still think the author is wrong, but not about what he says, just how he would see things done. Half of you are here as refugee either of this generation or the few before you, the other because you've perhaps found a society that fits better than one you left.

And so I now see a little clearer, the greatness of this state lies in you
<waves a hand to encompass the crowd> your diversity, your differences, for the great majority your overwhelming tolerance of others. <half turning to the Koryphians behind> We could not function without it.. The charter was made to hold it inviolate, but I wondered this morning, as I have on some occasions recently.. If we have not lost our way a little?

<turns back to the crowd> We need to renew the vigour of this city, stop wallowing in the past and move on, We in the Haak district know better than the rest that it is trade and the willing acceptance of all comers into the bosom of our culture that has made us strong. a smattering of cheers

We need to take stock, accept what has gone and forge on. I thus propose to the District Koryph that we take Census.

Let us record again the names of every citizen, their children, their homes and their livelihoods. It will present a fresh start for many and the opportunity to be afforded the rights of citizenship and truly engage with us .. and allow us to see where we must focus our efforts to improve the opportunities for all and take away the shadows of anonymity in which unwelcome agitators hide.

As she finishes there is a immediate rumble of noise from the crowd not so much voices shouting out, as in excitable debate..
Amongst the Koryphians too there is some movement, and Tykaerith steps forwards clearly about to speak, but Tessa holds up her hand and quickly adds..

I realise that this proposal cannot be dealt with until the next scheduled Koryph session. But I thought that brining it to the attention of the broader Haak would give you each chance to consult with those you represent before then. <smiles>

My only other points were to mention I have appointed Concilli to my ward, Stalland the Whitelander, Lellandra Vespera and Magglus Diavelli.. and also that Magglus Diavelli will act as my Proxy to Koryph when I am unavailable.

I thank the Koryph for their indulgence.

Lady Tykaerith nods to Tessa as she retakes her seat, allowing the crowd a few more moments to calm before turning to Zamaragdus and indicating the usual place at the podium's edge.

Tykaerith

And now I believe the Arbiter of Outer Fireside has indicated another matter to bring before us...

With a nod to Tykaerith, Zamaragdus rises but does not move towards the crowd.

Zamaragdus

Actually... My Koryphian has something to say.

Sagneth opens his eyes. A pair of tiny red pinpricks, brighter than the dim crimson nimbus that perpetually surrounds him.

Zamaragdus

My lords of the Koryph, and people of the Haak. It is to our abiding sadness that matters of great import to the city drew away my lord at the time of the Horror. True, it could be said he is but one magi in a city of many, but it still pains the my lord Sagneth that you the people have suffered by his absence.

And so he would amend that. Here and now.

Sagneth unfolds from his chair, rising just perceptively into the air above the stage. Slowly, he floats toward the speaker’s vantage at the edge of the platform. The crowd quietens into a susurrus of whispers - both the uneasy and the expectant, broken here by the occasional cheer or clap or shout of Fireside!
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 25, 2013, 11:03:30 PM
Sagneth reaches the edge of the stage. The glow around him grows brighter and deeper.

Sagneth

Let it not be said we are unfeeling

A burst of green fire suddenly erupts from Sagneth’s body, writhing in coils around him like a jagged loop of lightning. After a moment or two the colour transforms from emerald to deep crimson, and the lightning freezes in place - hanging in a complex interwoven pattern, in wide ring around the magi. The air around it shimmers like a heat haze, and a painful sourceless whine fills the air.

A moment later both are gone, and Sagneth is no longer stood alone at the platform’s edge.
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: The Dan February 25, 2013, 11:34:59 PM
The air itself seems to bubble and warp, and throughout the plaza ears pop and hair crackles with static, and there are eight men now upon the stage around Sagneth.

For a moment frozen in various poses - a couple mid stride, another sitting, a third hanging in the air, legs apart as if riding; one seems to only half dressed, another fully armed and armoured in the livery of a Greenjacket. A couple of Dromishmen, two at least harcen if not full cenders, the rest Pyraxians in varied dress. For a heartbeat the plaza is deathly still and utterly silent, then the men tumble shocked and confused to the ground, gasping like spent fish, with steam rising from their hair and clothes.

The armed man clutches surprised for his blade. Another scrabbles frantically back unil he's brought to a halt by Zamaragdus' boot. One simply curls into a ball, eyes so wide in terror its visible for quite some way into the crowd.

Sagneth

These men summoned the Polycrus

Sagneth

These men summoned the Polycrus

There is a roar from the crowd, voices shouting from all corners "Kill em!".. "Hang the Bastards!".. "Murderers!".. "Give them to the fires!"

On the stage Zamaragdus holds up a hand and speaks.. but whatever his words are, is lost to the tumult.

Hebba Jobey

<springs forwards towards the Portico wall> SHIT! <..and scrabbles over it>

The Soldiers in front of the stage keep their heads.. undoubtedly some notice must have been given to them, because as the crowd erupts there is a loud whistle from a silver helmed soldier in the middle and as the soldiers turn their tear shields sideways locking them into a wall and push forwards against the front rows of the crowd.

Their almost instant action pre-empts the surge of the crowd, and sends a ripple of backwards momentum through the front of the mob..

Hebba Jobey

<pushing and shoving along with the soldiers trying to keep the crowd infront of him on their back foot>

Any time you feel like getting stuck in lads! <he shouts back over his shoulder>

On the stage the six immortals have moved swiftly up to surround the arrivals, sickly green radiance  blazing from each of their hands. Zamaragdus again tries to shout over the bellowing of the crowd, but again his words are lost.

Most of the Arbiters have moved to positions infront of there respective Koryphians, with the exception of Tessa who moves in front of Scipio, and Scalarmis who unclips his hammer and strides forwards between the immortals towards the Greenjacket in their midst.
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: Ant February 26, 2013, 10:04:59 AM
Stalland

<Steps onto the balustrade and begins to shout> HOLD YOURSELVES! GET BACK AND WAIT! <if he spots anyone about to be trampled or crushed he will pull them out, or if any are too "keen" he'll shove them back as per Hebba>
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: Nitch February 26, 2013, 10:06:51 AM

<hops up the final step onto the stage and runs to stand in front of Tessa and Scipio, saying something quickly over her shoulder>

<She stands ready but her eyes follow Scalarmis, trying to identifying the greenjacket>
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: Captain Shortworth February 26, 2013, 10:22:44 AM
Lucius

<looks lost for half a second before cursing> That bastard still has my shield, fecker... <before dropping his shoulder and lowering his centre of gravity and pushing back against the crowd to open up some space for him to move close to Hebba> Not sure I've the authority for this one friend, so if your men give me a kicking, I expect some recompense!
: Re: Midnight Plaza
: 50 February 26, 2013, 12:07:06 PM
The baying and shouting of the crowd continues for a minute or two, but at least the actual pushing and shoving seems in the most part to be confined to those closest to the stage. The soldiers there, assisted by watchmen, Tremallu, Stalland, Lucius and a few others manage mostly to keep the surges at bay.

(There is one brief moment when Stalland, pushing someone back, gets grabbed by someone else in the crowd.. and for a few seconds looks like he's about to be dragged into the mob! But Lucius and Hebba manage to grab the big man and throw their weight into getting him back onto the right side of the line).

..On the stage..

After looking round (and up at Scalarmis) the Greenjacket unclips his sword and hands it to the Arbiter, and he and the rest of the eight are quickly corralled together by the Immortals and marched towards the ramp at the back of the stage.

Zamaragdus

<shouting, now finally just able to be heard> Good citizens, these men have yet to be charged with anything.. a burden of guilt still remains to be proved! <Smiles a wide smile> ..But it would appear they are all very keen to help with our enquiries! <A ripple of laughter runs through the crowd>

Most of the crowd now starts to settle down a bit.. there's still some scattered cries for "execution" and the like, and plenty of shoving down at the front

Zamaragdus

<continues as Sagneth floats back to his position and the eight are directed down the ramp> My lord has produced the perpetrators and we will see to it that justice where needed is done to its fullest extent. Rest assured good people, we of the Koryph and Tremallu continue to guide, serve and protect you!..

Cheering rings out then across the throng, and the enthusiastic clapping of a crowd well entertained.

<Walks to the stage edge again as the Immortals and their captives disappear inside the Hall> That concludes the last Business of this session of the Haak District Koryph. We thank the witness  for their attendance and indulgence, and ask that you please disperse in orderly fashion.

<Turns to the assembled Koryphians with a nod> This Session is ended.

Two score more soldiers come out of the Hall then, about a dozen up onto the stage fanning out to its edges as the Koryphians and Arbiters withdraw to down the ramp. The rest moving out to support the others in holding the crowd.

Perhaps a minute or three passes with the crowd mostly still buzzing with debate, shouting or generally watching just to make sure there won't be an encore.. but when its clear the show is over people finally start to stream from Plaza, no doubt encouraged by the incentive to get out of the heat before the full midday-sun.. Though it still seems likely it will be evening before everyone has finally gone!

New to the city.
If he’s looking for work we can always use strong willing workers at the Pharos, we have a few that speak Whitelandish up there to help pick up the language, and we probable could find somewhere to sleep, a little extra muscle to help to protect the site at night will never go a miss.

Maybe after a while he could be of use to Hebba in time.
